Difference Between Hajj and Umrah

Many Muslims wonder about the difference between Hajj and Umrah. Despite similarities in some rituals, there are fundamental differences between them.

What is Hajj?

Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam, obligatory once in a lifetime for every Muslim who is adult, sane, and financially and physically capable. It is performed during specific months (Shawwal, Dhul Qi'dah, Dhul Hijjah).

What is Umrah?

Umrah is a confirmed Sunnah according to the majority of scholars and can be performed at any time of the year. Unlike Hajj, it is not tied to a specific time.
